The Partners

George Stern

George  SternGeorge graduated from Liverpool University with an honours degree in Mathematics and Statistics. He then went on to start his accounting career at Touche Ross as an Audit Trainee and was involved in the general audits of major banks including Barclays and large PLCs including companies such as GEC Marconi.

He then spent a year working in industry for The BOC Group, and then returned to the profession working with Moore Stephens (which currently has almost 2,000 partners). During his time with this firm he dealt with a varied portfolio of large audit clients and broadened his audit experience. George then went on to work for BDO Stoy Hayward before joining Levy Gee (now part of Numerica) as an Audit Manager and subsequently became the PA to one of the partners.

In February 1985 George formed Stern & Company and was joined by Jeffrey Joss as the second partner in 1990. He has gained experience in corporate disposals, employee share schemes, overseas companies, UK subsidiaries of overseas companies, tax schemes and has provided business development advice to many of his clients.

As the Partner responsible for IT, George is extremely IT literate and is passionate about sourcing and implementing efficient systems and software for the practice.  He also advises many of our clients on their own IT systems, be it accounting software or general system design and process.

George enjoys dealing directly with his larger clients and taking an important role within their companies to both enhance and protect their wealth by understanding what they want from their business.

George has two daughters, and when he is not in the office he enjoys the theatre, music and travelling and is a keen skier and gym user.

Jeffrey Joss

Jeffrey  JossJeffrey is an experienced Chartered Accountant and former Finance Director with strong expertise in Information Technology, Trade/Business Finance, Taxation and Company Law.

He has been practising as a Chartered Accountant since 1982, specialising in Small Business Taxation both direct (Corporation Tax, Income Tax, NIC etc.) and indirect Taxation (Value Added Tax).

Jeffrey has been a member of the Academy of Experts since October 2002, specialising in Forensic Accounting and Litigation support. His involvement in various cases over the years has resulted in positive outcomes for all concerned.

Jeffrey began his accountancy career as PA to the Senior Partner of Simmons Cohen Fine (now Simmons Gainsford), a ten partner firm specialising in Group Corporate Taxation and the Property Sector. He then went on to trade as a sole practitioner in Central London.

In 1985, he was one of the three founding partners of Leigh Philip and Partners who are now based just off Baker Street.

In 1990, Jeffrey joined George Stern as the second partner in Stern & Company.

He has gained exposure in a wide spectrum of commerce. Appointments have involved considerable responsibility in challenging environments where an objective approach, careful evaluation and meticulous attention to detail, have led to success including turnarounds and restructuring of corporate clients.

Jeffrey is both the Tax and Payroll Partner and deals with clients of all different sizes.

He is a keen Arsenal supporter and rarely misses a home game. He enjoys travelling along with Tennis and Motor Sports. He is married with one son who is currently at university.
